Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes fastest world cup fifty, creates history with blazing knock
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): It's unfair to judge a player based on a single match, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi has proven this once again. After failing in the first match of the Under-19 World Cup 2026, Vaibhav responded with a bang in his very next match. At just 14 years old, Vaibhav smashed a blistering half-century, setting a new record in World Cup history.
The Indian team had a disastrous start against Bangladesh in Saturday's match in Bulawayo. Two wickets fell in the third over. In such a difficult situation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi held firm at one end and continued to score runs aggressively. Even after the third wicket fell, his attack continued, maintaining pressure on the opposition bowlers.
Vaibhav completed his half-century by taking a run on the last ball of the 13th over. He scored this fifty in just 30 balls with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes, which was the fastest half-century of this tournament. With this, Vaibhav became the youngest batsman to score a half-century in the history of Under-19 World Cup. He broke the record of Shahidullah Kamal of Afghanistan by achieving this feat at the age of 14 years and 296 days.
He missed the century, but the innings was memorable
At the time of the half-century, the score of Team India was 68 runs, out of which 50 runs were of Vaibhav alone. He made a crucial partnership of 62 runs with Abhigyan Kundu and took the team past 100 runs. However, Vaibhav could not complete his century and was out in the 27th over after scoring 72 runs. He played this brilliant innings with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes in 67 balls. After him, wicketkeeper batsman Abhigyan Kundu also strengthened the position of the team by scoring a half-century.
