Ranchi (The Uttam Hindu): After India’s 0–2 Test series defeat against South Africa, conversations had intensified about Virat Kohli possibly returning to Test cricket. His century in the Ranchi ODI further fuelled the discussion, but Kohli has now put all speculation to rest.

Following the Ranchi ODI, Kohli made it clear during the presentation ceremony that his international career is now limited to just one format, ODI cricket and he has no plans beyond that. When asked if he intends to play only ODIs, he replied, “Yes, and it will always remain that way. I am playing only one kind of game.”

Kohli explained, “If you’ve played close to 300 games, you understand when you have the physical ability to bat long. As long as you are hitting the ball well, it's about staying physically fit, mentally ready, and excited.” His statement indicates that Kohli’s focus is firmly on the 2027 ODI World Cup.

In the Ranchi ODI, Kohli scored 135 off 120 balls, his 52nd ODI century, hitting 7 sixes and 11 fours, and played a crucial role in India’s 17-run victory. He was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.

Talking about the match, India posted 349/8 in 50 overs. Apart from Kohli’s 135, Rohit Sharma scored 57, KL Rahul made 60, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 32 runs.

Despite strong efforts from South Africa — Matthew Breetzke (72), Marco Jansen (70 off 39 balls with 3 sixes and 8 fours), and Corbin Bosch (67 off 51 balls with 1 six and 5 fours), the visitors were bowled out for 332 in 49.2 overs, losing by 17 runs.
