Virat Kohli stuns Sydney: 'King' Kohli pulls off stunning catch, overtakes Ponting; watch video
Sydney (The Uttam Hindu): In the third ODI between India and Australia played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, Virat Kohli once again proved with his fielding that he remains one of Team India's fittest players. Kohli took a stunning catch during the Australian innings, leaving thousands of spectators in the stadium in awe.
This incident occurred in the 23rd over of the Australian innings, when Washington Sundar was bowling. Off Sundar's bowling, batsman Matthew Short played a powerful shot towards short mid-wicket. The ball came at bullet speed, but Kohli, with lightning quickness, moved his head out of the way and leaped into the air to catch the ball.
The ball came so fast that Kohli barely had a second to react. The catch was so incredible that Kohli himself was momentarily stunned, as if in disbelief.
His brilliant effort brought the stadium to a roar of "Kohli, Kohli!" Teammates ran to him and celebrated the spectacular catch. The wicket was the result of sustained pressure from Sundar and Axar Patel. Kohli didn't stop there; in the very next over, he once again earned the crowd's applause by blocking a high drive through cover.
With this match, Kohli completed his 163rd catch in ODI cricket. With this, he surpassed legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting (160 catches). He is now only trailed by Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (218) on the list of most catches taken in ODIs.
