Weightlifting World Championship: Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal with 199 kg lift

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): India 's star female weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the silver medal in the World Championship 2025. She participated in the 48 kg weight category in the World Weightlifter Championship and won a medal in this major tournament after 3 years. This has made her total medal count in the World Championship 3. Earlier, she had won the gold medal in the World Championship 2017. Then she won the silver medal in the year 2022. She has already won the silver medal for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.


Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the World Championship, lifting a total of 199 kg. : Mirabai Chanu could not win a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 and she stood at the fourth position. After this, there was pressure on her to do well in the World Championship. Then she achieved the second position with a good performance. Mirabai lifted a total of 84 kg in the snatch category. After this, she lifted a total of 115 kg in the clean and jerk category. In this way, she won the silver medal by lifting a total weight of 199 kg.


Mirabai Chanu made a strong start at the World Championships by lifting 84 kg in her first attempt in the snatch category. The gold medal was won by Ri Song-Gum of Korea, who lifted a total of 213 kg (91 kg + 122 kg). She also set a new world record of 122 kg in the clean and jerk. Thanyathon Sukcharoen of Thailand won the bronze medal by lifting 198 kg (88 kg + 110 kg).
