Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): An important and big news has come out regarding the revision of the voter list i.e. Special Incentive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission has changed the schedule of drafting the voter list and has extended the dates. Earlier, the draft list of SIR was to be released in the state tomorrow i.e. on 31 December 2025, but now it has been amended. According to the new date, now the draft voter list will be published in UP on 6 January 2026. After this, the date for filing claims and objections for the general public has been fixed from 6 January to 6 February, while the final and revised voter list will be released on 6 March 2026.

This time the Election Commission's entire focus is on making the voter list completely transparent and error-free, due to which large-scale pruning is being done in the state. According to the data till 27 October 2025, there were a total of 15.44 crore registered voters in Uttar Pradesh. After investigation, the names of about 2.89 crore people are being prepared to be removed from the voter list. To keep this process transparent, notices have also been sent to about 1.11 crore voters. The Commission's aim is to make the list absolutely accurate before the elections.

Many different reasons have come to light behind the deletion of names of 2.89 crore voters. According to the data, the largest number is of those who have changed their address. Around 1.26 crore voters have been found who no longer live at their old address or have shifted to another place. At the same time, there are 83.73 lakh voters who have been absent from their address for a long time. Apart from this, 46 lakh names of those who have died have also been found in the list. In the investigation, 23.70 lakh names were also found which were registered at more than one place, while the names of 9.57 lakh voters are being deleted due to other technical flaws.
