Female doctor found dead in hotel room, alleges rape by policemen in suicide note
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident has emerged from Satara, Maharashtra, raising serious questions about the police administration. A female doctor committed suicide by hanging herself in a hotel room. The doctor wrote the suicide note on her own palm, accusing two police officers of rape and harassment.
The incident occurred at a hotel in Phaltan, Satara. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and found the doctor's body hanging from a noose.
The deceased doctor was a resident of Beed district and worked at the government hospital in Phaltan. In her palm-written suicide note, she stated that two police officers had been raping and harassing her for the past five months, leaving her mentally distressed and forced to take this extreme step.
In her suicide note, the female doctor wrote of being raped four times. She alleged that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane raped and sexually assaulted her multiple times. Another police officer, Prashant Banker, subjected her to constant mental harassment.
A Satara police official said that due to the seriousness of the matter, a case has been registered and the body has been sent for post-mortem. A thorough investigation is underway into the allegations made in the suicide note. The main accused, Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane, has been suspended with immediate effect.
After the matter escalated, Maharashtra Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar said, "We have taken cognizance of this matter. We have ordered the Satara police to investigate the case vigorously. Teams have been formed to search for the accused. Those involved in this case will not be spared."
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has targeted the state government over this incident. He wrote, "This is a case where the protector becomes the predator! The police's duty is to protect, but how can justice be served if they themselves are exploiting a female doctor? Why was no action taken when this girl filed a complaint earlier? The Mahayuti government repeatedly protects the police, leading to increased police atrocities."
