Varanasi (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking and controversial incident has come to light on the banks of the holy river Ganga in Kashi, the city of religion and spirituality. The police have taken serious action on the serious charges of organizing an Iftar party on a boat in the middle of the Ganga, eating chicken biryani there, and throwing the bones directly into the Ganga water. After this act deeply hurt the faith of the devotees, the Kotwali police have conducted a series of raids and have arrested 14 accused so far.

Viral video reveals secret, BJYM files complaint

This sensational incident was revealed through a video that quickly went viral on social media. The video clearly shows some people having Iftar on a boat in the middle of the Ganges, where non-vegetarian food is being served. Taking immediate cognizance of this objectionable video, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Metropolitan President Rajat Jaiswal filed a written complaint at the Kotwali police station on Monday night. The video was also submitted to the police as evidence, based on which the police immediately registered a case and began searching for the accused.

Strict action under inciting religious sentiments and water pollution

Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (Section 295A) for intentionally hurting religious sentiments and the Water Pollution Prevention Act. Expressing strong anger, BJP Yuva Morcha leader Rajat Jaiswal said that Mother Ganga is the supreme center of faith for millions of followers of Sanatan Dharma, where people from all over the country and the world come for achaman (drinking water) and worship. Serving non-vegetarian food in the lap of Ganga and throwing its bones into the water is not only a major environmental crime but also a despicable conspiracy to deliberately hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.

The administration will also target the sailor and the barge owner

Hindu organizations are deeply enraged by this entire incident and are demanding strict action. The police have not only arrested the 14 people who ate biryani, but have also accurately identified the boat on which the event was held. Police are now initiating legal proceedings to revoke the licenses of the boat owner and the sailor who operated it. ACP Kotwali Vijay Pratap Singh stated that given the seriousness of the viral video on Instagram and the BJYM's complaint, the police conducted raids at various locations and made these arrests, and further rigorous investigations into the matter are ongoing.
