Mother kills sons, attacks father-in-law in misguided quest for ancestors' salvation
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case has emerged from Navsari, Gujarat, demonstrating how superstitious someone can be in the name of "salvation." Here, a woman allegedly killed her own children because she wanted to achieve salvation for her ancestors.
According to a police officer, a woman in Navsari murdered her two children. No weapon was used. The woman strangled the children with her own hands. It is alleged that she also ran to kill her father-in-law, but he somehow managed to escape.
According to Navsari police, the incident occurred Thursday night in a flat in the Desara area of Bilimora town. The accused woman is originally from Uttar Pradesh. She lived with her husband, Shivkant, and two sons, ages 7 and 4. Her in-laws also lived with them. Police officials say the accused woman has been arrested and identified as Sunita Sharma. Sunita even attempted to kill her father-in-law, but he managed to escape and save his life.
Officials further stated that Shivkant was admitted to a private hospital due to typhoid. DSP B.V. Gohil said that father-in-law Indrapal and his wife, Sushri, had gone to the hospital to give food to their son Shivkant. When they returned, they went to their room and went to sleep. Sunita, meanwhile, was in her bedroom. Then, suddenly, at midnight, Sunita began praying to a deity for the salvation of her ancestors. During this time, she strangled both her sons to death.
