Jaipur (The Uttam Hindu): An out-of-control dumper truck wreaked havoc in the Harmara area of the capital, Jaipur, on Monday afternoon. Brakes failed in the Loha Mandi area, causing the dumper to go out of control and ram into 10 vehicles one after the other. The accident was so horrific that three people died, while more than a dozen others were seriously injured. Many of the injured remain in critical condition, which is likely to increase the death toll.

The tragic accident occurred around 1 p.m. when a speeding dumper was climbing Highway 14 from the Loha Mandi petrol pump. The dumper's brakes failed.

According to eyewitnesses, the out-of-control dump truck crushed about 10 vehicles, including cars, bikes, and autorickshaws. Some vehicles were severely mangled. The scene after the accident was heartbreaking; blood was spilled on the road and people were crying and screaming. Several bikers were crushed under the dump truck, and locals pulled them out with great difficulty.

Upon receiving the information, the police from Harmara police station arrived at the scene. They immediately began relief operations, sending the injured to Kanwatia Hospital, and placing the bodies of the deceased in the mortuary.

According to the police, preliminary investigations have determined the cause of the accident was a brake failure on the dumper. The driver lost control due to high speed, leading to the fatal accident. Police have taken the accused driver into custody and are interrogating him.

The accident caused a long traffic jam on Road No. 14, which the police cleared by diverting traffic. Local residents expressed their anger over the incident. They say that the number of heavy vehicles on the narrow roads in the Loha Mandi area is increasing, but the administration has made no arrangements for traffic control or safety. They have demanded a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the area.
