Sadhvi's mysterious death sparks probe: Family alleges foul play after viral video, injection found
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Following the controversial death of 23-year-old storyteller Sadhvi Prem Baisa, she was laid to rest at her ashram in her native village of Pareu on Thursday. The Sadhvi was admitted to a private hospital in Jodhpur on Wednesday but succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.
Sadhvi's father raises questions
Sadhvi's father, Veeramnath, claimed that his daughter only had a mild cold. According to him, she received an injection at the Jodhpur ashram, after which her health suddenly deteriorated. Shortly after her death, an alleged suicide note emerged, in which she recounted her life and past controversies.
Social and legal controversies resurface
Following the sadhvi's death, her old blackmailing case has resurfaced. In July 2025, a video of her hugging a man went viral on social media, which was widely circulated as obscene. On July 16, the sadhvi filed a report at the Boranada police station, stating that the man in the video was her father. The video was from 2021, when she was depressed and her father had encouraged her.
Arrest of former associates
Police arrested four people in the investigation of this case. The accused include Jogendra alias Jogaram (sound system manager), former driver Ramesh, Jogendra's wife Krishna, and another person. The Sadhvi alleged that Jogendra extracted video from the CCTV camera installed in the house and threatened her and demanded 20 lakh rupees. When the Sadhvi refused to pay, the video was edited and posted on social media.
The Sadhvi had said, "I am ready for the ordeal"
According to police officials at the time, the accused tarnished the Sadhvi's image by misrepresenting the father-daughter relationship. The Sadhvi had said at the time, "These people have tarnished the saffron flag. I am ready to undergo the ordeal to prove my truth."
The Sadhvi's alleged suicide note alluded to the same incident. She wrote, "I wrote to Adi Shankaracharya and several other great saints of the country, requesting them to undergo the ordeal of fire, but nature had no choice."
After the sadhvi's death, many devotees questioned her father, Veeramnath, alleging that he tried to avoid a postmortem. After persuasion by the police, the family relented. On Thursday, the sadhvi's body was taken to Pareu village in Balotra district, and on Friday afternoon, she was buried at her ashram, according to saint tradition .
