Storyteller Shravan Das Maharaj arrested in sexual assault case of minor, Mouni Baba absconding

Patna (The Uttam Hindu):  A serious and shocking incident has come to light from Darbhanga district, Bihar. Police have arrested a well-known storyteller on charges of sexually assaulting a minor. His guru, Mouni Baba, is currently absconding and a search is underway.

Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy, providing details of the case, said that Shravan Das Maharaj, a storyteller from the Mithila region, has been arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault involving a minor. The action was

taken by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SDPO Rajiv Kumar.

He said that a joint team from the Mahila Police Station, Laheriasarai Police Station, and other nearby police stations, acting on a tip-off, detained the accused from the Housing Board Colony. According to police, the accused's accomplice and guru, Mouni Baba, is still at large and his role is being thoroughly investigated.

Who is Shravan Das Maharaj?

The real name of the arrested storyteller, Shravan Das Maharaj, is said to be Shravan Thakur. He is a resident of Parri village in the Biraul police station area of ​​Darbhanga district. He was currently living at the Ram Janaki Temple in Pachadhi Cantonment, Laheriasarai police station area.

According to the FIR, the accused is accused of sexually exploiting the victim for approximately one year under the pretext of marriage

. The victim also alleges that she was pressured to have an abortion after becoming pregnant. An FIR has been filed by the victim's mother. Police say the entire case is being investigated from all angles and the veracity of all allegations is being verified.

Such cases have surfaced before.

This isn't the first time a religious preacher or godman has faced such serious allegations. Several self-proclaimed godmen have previously been accused of sexual assault, some of whom have been sentenced by court, while others are still pending trial.

At present, Darbhanga Police is engaged in further legal action in this case and the search for the absconding accused has been intensified
