New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Aadhaar Card has become one of the most important documents for every Indian today. It's needed at every step, from availing government benefits to proving identity. However, at the same time, cases of fraud using fake Aadhaar cards have also increased.

It's often seen that tenants, servants, or borrowers use fake Aadhaar cards to defraud people. To protect the public from this fraud, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new mobile app, the "Aadhaar App."

The new 'Aadhaar App' is different from the existing 'mAadhaar' app and comes with several new features, officials clarified. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS platforms.

How does this app work?

The biggest feature of this app is its ability to authenticate any Aadhaar card.

When you open this app, you will find the option of 'Scan QR' at the bottom.

By clicking on this you have to scan the Quick Response Code (QR Code) printed on any person's Aadhar card.

Once the code is scanned, the original details of that Aadhaar card will appear on your mobile screen. This will instantly reveal whether the Aadhaar card is genuine or fake.

Make your Aadhaar more secure too

This app is not just limited to checking the Aadhaar of others, but it also provides several important features to the users to make their own Aadhaar card more secure. This includes privacy controls, which allow users to hide or mask sensitive information like their Aadhaar number or date of birth before sharing it. Additionally, Aadhaar holders can easily lock and unlock their biometrics (fingerprint and iris) through the app, so that no one can misuse them. Not only this, users can also check the history of when and where their biometrics have been used through this app.
