Driverless future: OSM unveils world's first autonomous E-three wheeler, revolutionizing transportation
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian electric vehicle (EV) sector marked a historic milestone on Tuesday. Electric vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) launched the world's first autonomous, driverless, electric three-wheeler, "Swayangati." With a starting price of ₹4 lakh, this "Made-in-India" vehicle is now ready for commercial use, offering a new perspective on India's transportation future.
How will this driverless auto work?
'Swayangathi' is developed on OSM's advanced electric platform and an autonomy system based on artificial intelligence (AI). The vehicle utilizes cutting-edge technology such as LiDAR. It is mapped and programmed to follow pre-determined routes, allowing it to safely transport passengers without a driver. The company aims to use it for short-distance transportation or last-mile connectivity in airports, smart campuses, industrial parks, large societies, and congested urban areas.
Speaking at the launch, OSM Founder and Chairman Uday Narang said, "'Swayangati' is not just a product, but a step forward in shaping the future of transportation in India. It proves that cutting-edge technology like AI can be made in India, for India, and at an affordable price."
According to the company, a 2025 McKinsey report estimates the global autonomous vehicle market to reach $620 billion by 2030. In such a scenario, 'Swayangathi' could establish India as a leader in this rapidly growing market.
3-km driverless test successful
The company stated that Swayangti recently completed successful testing on a 3-kilometer autonomous route. During this time, the vehicle completed its journey without a driver, making seven stops, detecting obstacles in real-time, and ensuring passenger safety. The company is now preparing for the second phase of its commercial rollout.
