Have This Smartphone? Google Might Owe You ₹8500 — Full Process Inside
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): If you use Google's Pixel 6a smartphone, then there is a big news for you. The company has started a new 'Battery Performance Program' after continuous complaints of overheating and battery performance in the phone. Under this program, Google will either replace the battery for free to the affected users or is offering $ 100 (about Rs 8,500) as compensation.
Why was this program started?
Actually, many users of Google Pixel 6a had complained about the phone getting hot (overheating) and the battery getting drained quickly. Acknowledging these problems, the company has taken this step. To solve the problem, the company will also release the update of Android 16 from July 8, which is expected to improve the performance of the phone and reduce the risk of overheating.
What options do users have?
Eligible Pixel 6a users will have three options under this program:
Free Battery Replacement: Users can visit any of Google's authorized service centers and get their phone's battery replaced for free.
Cash compensation: Those who do not want to get the battery replaced can avail a cash compensation of $100 (around Rs 8,500).
Google Store Credit: Another option is to go for $150 (roughly Rs. 12,800) worth of Google Store credit.
How to check your eligibility?
To check whether you are eligible for this program or not, you have to visit Google's official support page. There you have to enter your phone's IMEI number and the email ID linked to the device.
Payment and Terms
The company has clarified that the cash payment will be made through a third-party 'Payoneer', for which information like ID proof and PAN card may be sought. Also keep in mind that the final compensation amount will depend on the exchange rate of that day.
Google has also clarified that phones that have liquid damage or physical damage will not be eligible for free battery replacement. Also, if the phone is not under warranty and its screen is broken, the company may charge you a service fee.
When will the facility start in India?
According to Google, this battery replacement facility in India will be available at walk-in repair centers from July 21, 2025. Apart from India, this facility will also be started in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Japan and Singapore.
