Motorola phone explodes in pocket, turns to ashes; leaves users stunned

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Another terrifying case of a smartphone explosion has surfaced. A video is rapidly going viral on the social media platform Instagram, claiming to show a Motorola smartphone exploding. According to the video, the incident occurred while the phone was in the user's pocket. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident, but the back panel of the phone was completely burned.

Based on the design and rear panel of the phone seen in the viral video, tech experts are speculating that it could be the "Moto G14" model, which the company launched in 2023. However, there's no official confirmation regarding the model number in the video. The video clearly shows the phone's deterioration after the blast, which gives an idea of ​​the potential damage if it had exploded in your pocket.

This isn't the first case of a Motorola phone exploding. In July 2025, a similar incident was reported in Himachal Pradesh, where a user's phone exploded while charging. The victim stated that he had purchased the phone just three months prior. In February of this year, a woman's Motorola phone exploded in Brazil. The continued emergence of such cases has raised concerns among users.

Why do smartphones explode? According to tech experts, the biggest reason behind this is the phone's battery. Using a poor-quality battery, a local charger, or forcibly charging the phone with a high-voltage fast charger even if the phone doesn't support fast charging can all cause an accident. Furthermore, if the phone's battery is damaged or pressured by a fall, there's a risk of explosion. Therefore, it's always recommended to use the original charger.
