AAP Leaders in Deep Trouble! ED Launches Probe into ₹6,368 Crore Scams in Delhi Hospitals
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi is facing serious trouble as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched an investigation into three major scams involving alleged financial irregularities of over ₹6,368 crore. The ED has officially registered a money laundering case and is now probing the scams linked to hospital construction, shelter homes (Rain Baseras), and CCTV camera installation projects.
Hospital Scam: ₹5,590 Crore Under the Scanner
In 2018-19, the AAP government announced the construction of 24 new hospitals in Delhi, promising completion within six months. However, despite spending ₹800 crore, even half of the work was not completed. For example, the cost of Lok Nayak Hospital reportedly shot up from ₹488 crore to ₹1,135 crore.
The ED claims that several projects were initiated without proper approvals, leading to massive cost escalations. The agency is expected to question key AAP leaders soon. Former Health Minister Satyendar Jain, already facing a money laundering case and currently out on bail, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, may be summoned for interrogation.
Shelter Home & CCTV Installation Irregularities
Apart from hospitals, there are allegations of corruption in the construction of Rain Baseras (shelter homes) meant for the homeless. Similarly, the ambitious CCTV camera project in Delhi, touted as a security measure, is also under scrutiny for irregularities in tenders, inflated bills, and poor execution. The ED has hinted that more summons will be issued, and the financial trail will be tracked to uncover if public funds were siphoned off for political or personal gains.
Key Figures Under Radar:
Former Health Minister Satyendar Jain
Current AAP leaders involved in project approvals
Contractors linked to the hospital & CCTV projects
The investigation could open a new chapter of trouble for AAP, which is already battling multiple legal challenges.
