Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu): A major accident was narrowly avoided at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport early Monday morning after a cargo container vehicle collided with the wing of an Akasa Air flight bound for Delhi. The impact damaged both the aircraft and the vehicle, leading to immediate safety concerns.

The incident occurred around 4:54 AM when Flight QP1736, arriving from Bengaluru, was parked at Bay A-7 and scheduled to depart as Flight QP1410 to Delhi. Before passenger boarding began, while cargo was being offloaded, a BWFS (Bird Worldwide Flight Services) container vehicle rammed into the aircraft’s right wing.

Following the collision, the aircraft was declared Airworthy Unfit and marked Aircraft on Ground (AOG) after a technical inspection. Akasa Air swiftly arranged a replacement aircraft (VT-VBB) to minimize passenger inconvenience. Travelers were transported by bus to the new aircraft via Gate 29, and the flight eventually departed safely for Delhi.

Although no injuries were reported, the incident has raised serious questions about ground handling procedures and airside safety protocols at one of India’s busiest airports. A detailed investigation into the matter has been initiated.
