Amit Shah Orders 'Zero Lapse' Security for Amarnath Yatra 2025 Amid Terror Threats
Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all security agencies to maintain maximum vigilance and alertness to ensure the upcoming Amarnath Yatra is conducted peacefully and without incident.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, Amit Shah reviewed the preparations and security arrangements in detail. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Indian Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies from both the Centre and the Union Territory.
The Union Home Minister emphasized that no effort will be spared by the Centre and UT administration in providing all necessary facilities to pilgrims. The meeting lasted for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Following the meeting, Amit Shah posted on platform 'X':
“Chaired the review meeting on Amarnath Yatra and evaluated the security arrangements and preparations. Instructed all agencies to maintain utmost vigilance to ensure the sacred pilgrimage proceeds without hindrance. The Government of India and the Jammu & Kashmir administration are fully committed to providing all essential services to the pilgrims.”
On Friday, the Home Minister is scheduled to visit the border district of Poonch, where he will meet civilians affected by cross-border shelling from Pakistan. He will also address BSF personnel at the Khaniater Unit Headquarters, visit damaged religious sites, and hand over appointment letters to families of those killed in the shelling.
Thursday’s meeting primarily focused on the security of the Amarnath Yatra, including infiltration threats and the Centre's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. Detailed discussions were held on post-attack security measures following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, with police and intelligence agencies briefing the Home Minister on updates. The Amarnath Yatra 2025 will begin on July 3 and conclude after 38 days, on August 9.
