Asia Cup 2025 Confirmed in UAE — But Is Team India’s Star Bowler Missing Again?
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Asia Cup 2025 is officially scheduled to be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28, played in the T20 format. The announcement was made by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after its AGM. There had been speculation that India-Pakistan political tensions could derail the tournament, but the BCCI agreed to participate at a neutral venue, clearing the path for the event.
However, one big question looms over Team India’s lineup — Will Jasprit Bumrah be available for the tournament? His recent injury record and absence from the last Test have raised concerns.
Former cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra stated, "Bumrah's availability is once again a major question. If he’s not playing the final Test, I believe he must play the Asia Cup — but it's uncertain."
Chopra also cast doubt on Mohammed Shami's participation due to ongoing fitness issues, saying “I can almost guarantee that Shami won’t be part of the Asia Cup squad. He was last included to prepare for the Champions Trophy. If he’s not in Tests, I don’t think we’ll see him in T20s right now.”
India’s squad is expected to be announced by mid-August, and fans are eager to see whether it resembles the previous T20 selection or brings fresh faces ahead of the World Cup.
