Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant achievement for the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, the army eliminated one of the most wanted terrorists, Bagu Khan (alias ‘Samandar Chacha’), in a fierce encounter in the Guraz Sector of North Kashmir on Saturday. Bagu Khan, who had been operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) since 1995, was notorious in terror circles and was referred to as a ‘Human GPS’ for his in-depth knowledge of infiltration routes and strategies.

According to defense sources, the encounter took place in the Naishera area of the Guraz Sector when a group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate. In this operation, Bagu Khan was killed along with another militant.

Bagu Khan was involved in over 100 infiltration attempts over the past three decades. His deep knowledge of the rugged mountainous terrain and secret paths in the Guraz Sector made him a crucial figure for many terrorist organizations. Due to this expertise, many infiltration attempts led by him were successful.

Originally, he was a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, but later helped Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad militants infiltrate the Kashmir Valley from Guraz and surrounding areas.

The elimination of Bagu Khan, who had managed to evade surveillance for years, is considered a huge blow to the logistics and infiltration network of terrorist organizations. Senior army officials believe his death will significantly impact terrorist planning and operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in this region.

This operation comes just two days after an encounter in the same sector, where the army killed two infiltrators attempting to cross the border. In light of the continued infiltration attempts, security forces have intensified their surveillance in the area and are conducting search operations.
