Snatchers Strike Near Parliament: Woman MP Injured as Her Gold Chain is Snatched During Morning Walk in Delhi’s High-Security Zone
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking breach of security in Delhi’s high-security Chanakyapuri area, Congress MP R. Sudha from Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, became a victim of chain snatching during her morning walk. The incident occurred around 6 AM on Monday when an unidentified man on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain near Tamil Nadu Bhavan.
The MP sustained a neck injury during the incident and is reportedly in shock. Delhi Police confirmed the case and launched a full-scale investigation, forming over 10 teams to track the culprit. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed, dump data is being analyzed, and eyewitnesses are being questioned. Security around Tamil Nadu Bhavan has been tightened following the incident.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi accompanied MP Sudha to meet the Lok Sabha Speaker to file a formal complaint, while the MP also wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing her distress and raising serious concerns over women’s safety, especially so close to Parliament. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of VVIP security protocols amid the ongoing parliamentary session.
