7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Russia's Pacific Coast, Tsunami Warning Issued
Moscow (The Uttam Hindu): A series of powerful earthquakes hit off the Pacific coast of Russia, with three significant tremors recorded within a 32-minute span. The earthquakes measured 6.7, 6.7, and 7.4 magnitude, according to geological surveys. A smaller 5.0 magnitude quake was also reported in the same area less than 30 minutes prior. Three aftershocks followed, including one at magnitude 6.6.
The epicenter of the quakes was located off the coast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city with a population of over 163,152 in the Kamchatka Region.
Following the earthquakes, a tsunami warning was issued for Russia and Hawaii, USA, due to the potential threat of tsunami waves. Authorities are urging caution and precautionary measures in coastal areas.
