New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Monsoon havoc continues across India, causing chaos from plains to the hills. Torrential rains have triggered severe floods in many states, disrupting daily life. Rescue and relief efforts face serious challenges.
In Delhi, a yellow alert remains in place, with moderate to heavy rain expected in several areas. The Yamuna River is flowing above the danger mark, posing flood threats in low-lying areas and raising concerns for authorities. Waterlogging and traffic jams are likely.
In Punjab, monsoon activity remains strong with expected light to moderate rain. Temperatures have dropped, making the weather pleasant, with a high of 26°C and low of 23°C.
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are worst hit, as major rivers like Ganga and Yamuna have crossed danger levels, flooding thousands of villages and forcing people to flee to safer places. Heavy rainfall alerts are in place for 65 districts in UP, and several in Bihar. Crop damage due to waterlogging is severe.
Hilly states like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are witnessing landslides and road closures due to incessant rain. Authorities have urged tourists to avoid travel to mountainous areas.
