India and Pakistan Implement Ceasefire; MEA Confirms After Trump’s Announcement
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): India and Pakistan have finally agreed on a ceasefire after long and intense negotiations mediated by the United States. US President Donald Trump, while announcing this important development, has praised the 'common sense and great intelligence' of both the countries. MEA has given this information after Trump's announcement. This historic step has been taken at a time when there were frequent drone attacks, shelling and extremely tense situations on the border between the two countries, which had raised serious concerns at the regional and global level.
Announcing this agreement, US President Donald Trump wrote on his official Twitter handle, "I am very happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries for displaying common sense and superior intelligence." The US side has described this decision as a result of the maturity of both countries.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar tweeted, "Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity."
At the same time, the US Secretary of State, while shedding light on this mediation process, said that during the last 48 hours, Vice President JD Vance and he have had intensive talks with top officials of India and Pakistan. These talks included Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior officials of both countries, who actively cooperated in restoring peace.
It is worth noting that in recent times, tension on the border was at its peak after the air strike carried out by the Indian Air Force inside Pakistan. Continuous drone attacks, missiles and heavy shelling were being carried out from Pakistan's side, in response to which India was also responding strongly. These incidents not only endangered the lives of people living in the border areas, but also created an atmosphere of instability in the entire region.
After this ceasefire agreement, it is now expected that peace will be restored on the India-Pakistan border and further positive steps will be taken to reduce tension between the two countries. The global community has also welcomed this initiative and expressed hope that this agreement will pave a new path for stability and peace in South Asia.
