No Conspiracy Behind Ex-VP Dhankhar’s Exit, Says Amit Shah, Slams Opposition Allegations
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid growing speculations over the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday dismissed the Opposition’s allegations and called them baseless.
Speaking to a news agency, Shah said, “Dhankhar ji was holding a constitutional position and worked diligently as per the Constitution. He stepped down purely due to personal health issues. Nobody should stretch this matter or attempt to find unnecessary angles in it.”
On the Opposition’s stance against the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, Shah launched a sharp attack, claiming, “The Opposition wants a situation where even from jail, one can run a government, appoint chief secretaries, or issue orders. This is not possible in a democracy.” He expressed confidence that many Congress leaders would support the bill on moral grounds, ensuring its smooth passage.
Taking a dig at Congress, Shah questioned Rahul Gandhi’s earlier actions: “What was the morality when Rahul Gandhi tore apart the ordinance brought by Manmohan Singh to save Lalu Yadav? If morality existed then, why not today when you’ve lost three consecutive elections?”
Shah also linked the debate to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, saying, “If this law had existed earlier, Kejriwal would have been forced to resign when he was jailed. He only resigned later after the Supreme Court’s directions. The JPC on the new law has been formed, but the Opposition refuses to participate. The public is watching everything. Even without them, the JPC will complete its work.”
