Tragedy in Himachal: 11 Pilgrims on Manimahesh Yatra Killed in Bharmaur Landslide
Chamba(The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rainfall and landslides have wreaked havoc across several states in North India, with Himachal Pradesh’s Manimahesh Yatra turning tragic. At least 11 pilgrims lost their lives after being caught in a landslide near Bharmaur during incessant rains.
According to officials, the deceased include three from Punjab, one from Uttar Pradesh, and five from Chamba district, while the identities of two victims remain unconfirmed. The past five days alone have claimed seven lives, taking the total death toll on the pilgrimage route to 11. Two bodies were transported to Chamba on Thursday and handed over to their families.
With the situation worsening, authorities are now considering airlifting stranded pilgrims. Four helicopters have been deployed in Chamba to assist with rescue operations.
Meanwhile, other districts including Kullu and Mandi have also been battered by torrential rains. In Mandi, landslides blocked the Mandi–Manali highway at several locations including Jagar and Sambal, delaying road restoration efforts. Officials have warned that continuous downpours could further aggravate the situation.
