Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu): The Mumbai Police has issued a notice to Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil for violating rules during his ongoing protest. Acting on court directives, the police on Tuesday also rejected Patil’s request for permission to hold a demonstration in the city.

The Azad Maidan Police served a notice to Patil’s core committee, instructing them to vacate the protest site at the earliest. The notice also cites remarks made by Patil that the police claim to have taken serious note of.

Patil has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan since Friday, joined by thousands of supporters, demanding reservation for the Maratha community. However, talks between Patil and the Maharashtra government have so far failed, with authorities refusing permission for his protest rally.

Meanwhile, the police have also registered a case against Maratha protesters following a violent clash with bus passengers in Juhu. The incident occurred around 7:15 pm on Sunday at the Santacruz depot (Mateshwari), where a stationary BEST bus became the center of a dispute. During the scuffle, bus windows were smashed.

Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting the Juhu Police to file an FIR against unidentified protesters. This marks the first criminal case since Patil’s agitation began.
