Amritsar(The Uttam Hindu): Panic gripped Chandaneke village in Amritsar rural on Saturday afternoon after a 28-year-old man named Jugraj Singh was shot dead in broad daylight by armed assailants. According to police, three men arrived on a motorcycle with their faces covered and confronted Jugraj near his residence. When he realized he was being targeted, Jugraj attempted to flee by leaving his bike behind and running on foot, but the attackers quickly surrounded him and opened fire, killing him instantly before escaping on the same motorcycle.

Authorities said the Bambiha gang has publicly claimed responsibility for the murder, raising concerns about rising gang violence in Punjab. Investigators revealed that Jugraj Singh was the brother of Jagroop Singh alias Roop, one of the key accused in the high-profile killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, suggesting possible revenge or gang rivalry as a motive behind Saturday’s attack.

SP Maninder Singh confirmed that a police team reached the scene shortly after the shooting, cordoned off the area, and sent Jugraj’s body for a post-mortem. Forensic experts have collected evidence, including bullet casings, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed to trace the attackers’ route. Police have launched a hunt to identify and apprehend those involved.

Local residents expressed shock and fear after the incident, saying the brazen attack in the middle of the day has left the entire village terrified. Many called on authorities to intensify efforts to curb gang-related violence, which has escalated in recent months. Police officials assured that an investigation is underway on a priority basis and urged anyone with information about the suspects to come forward, promising their identities will be kept confidential.

The killing has once again brought attention to the network of organized gangs operating in Punjab, highlighting the urgent need for stricter measures to tackle gun violence and ensure the safety of residents.
