New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking incident that has left Maharashtra in disbelief, a 19-year-old woman gave birth inside a moving sleeper coach bus and, with her partner’s help, allegedly threw the newborn out of the window, leading to the infant’s death. The chilling act took place around 6:30 AM on the Pathri-Selu Road in Parbhani district on Wednesday.

According to police, Ritika Dhere, traveling with her partner Altaf Sheikh in a Sant Prayag Travels sleeper bus bound for Pune, went into labor during the journey and delivered the baby on the spot. Moments after the birth, the couple reportedly wrapped the newborn in a piece of cloth and hurled it out of the moving bus. The driver caught a glimpse of something being thrown through the rearview mirror, but when questioned, Sheikh casually dismissed it as his wife vomiting due to nausea.

However, the shocking act didn’t go unnoticed. A patrolling police team was alerted by a citizen who saw something suspicious thrown from the bus. Acting swiftly, the police chased and stopped the bus, conducting a preliminary check before taking Ritika and Sheikh into custody.

During interrogation, the couple confessed that they were unable to raise the child and hence decided to abandon it. Police revealed that both individuals are originally from Parbhani but had been living in Pune for the past 18 months. Interestingly, while they claimed to be husband and wife, they failed to produce any documents or proof of their marriage. A formal case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
