New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a heartfelt address to the nation, extending warm greetings to all citizens. She said, “It is a matter of great pride for us that Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal by all Indians. These occasions remind us of the special pride of being Indian. For us, our Constitution and our democracy are supreme.”

Highlighting the historic importance of 15th August, she noted that the date is deeply etched in the collective memory of the nation. Generations during the colonial era had dreamed of a free India, and that very hope fueled progress after independence. “Tomorrow, when we salute our tricolour, we will also pay homage to all freedom fighters whose sacrifices brought us liberty 78 years ago,” she said.

President Murmu described India as the land of one of the world’s oldest republics, rightly called the “Mother of Democracy.” She emphasized that the nation’s democratic institutions, built on the foundation of the Constitution, have strengthened its democratic processes.

Referring to Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, observed earlier in the day, the President remembered the tragic violence and mass displacement of millions, paying homage to those who suffered due to historical mistakes.
