Chandigarh (Uttam Hindu News) – The first day of the special session of the Punjab Assembly, convened on flood relief, was heated with uproar and heated accusations. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in his address, directly attacked the opposition, saying, "Whoever has the most brainpower, has spoken as much. Some people are looking for opportunities in the disaster and are using the flood as an excuse to abuse me."

Referring to Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to Punjab, the Chief Minister quipped, "He has Z-plus security. If the strong current of the Ravi river had swept him away, people would have said that Rahul Gandhi had been sent to Pakistan."

Accusing the central government of withholding funds, Mann said that over the past 25 years, the central government has provided only ₹6,090 crore to the State Disaster Fund, while the Punjab government has contributed the rest. He alleged that opposition parties are misleading the public and leveling false allegations against the government.

Uproar and poster-throwing in the House: During the proceedings, Aam Aadmi Party MLAs created a ruckus over the central government's failure to release relief funds. Posters reading "Modi ji's 1600 crore jumla" were waved, forcing the House to be adjourned for approximately 20 minutes.

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema alleged that both BJP MLAs were absent from the House. Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "When he visited Pathankot, he didn't even meet the family that lost four children in the floods. The Prime Minister hates Punjab, and the people will teach the BJP a lesson in the future."
