Two Arrested in Punjab for Smuggling Pistols and Magazines from Pakistan
Fazilka (The Uttam Hindu): In a major crackdown on cross-border arms trafficking, Fazilka Police in Punjab busted a weapons smuggling module linked to Pakistan. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested two individuals who were allegedly operating under the guidance of foreign handlers.
During the operation, the police seized five foreign pistols and nine magazines from the accused. Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were being smuggled from Pakistan through a foreign network to supply criminal gangs in Punjab. The arrested individuals, Surinder Singh and Gurpreet, were responsible for delivering these arms to local gangs. A case has been registered under the Arms Act at Fazilka Sadar Police Station.
The police are actively searching for the entire criminal network involved. The Punjab Police regularly conducts such cross-border operations to secure the state from illicit arms trafficking.
This incident comes shortly after a similar operation on September 12, when Fazilka police had seized 18 pistols, 1,847 rounds, and 42 magazines from another Pakistan-linked smuggling module. The recovered arms were reportedly intended for distribution among criminal gangs and local criminals.
The recent crackdown involved strategic night surveillance near Mahar Kheewa Mansa village, where BSF and SSOC teams detained one suspect with a large cache of hidden weapons and ammunition. Subsequently, another associate from the same area was also apprehended. Both accused hailed from Teja Rohela and Mahar Jamsher villages in Fazilka.
Punjab Police have reiterated their commitment to keeping the state secure through vigilant monitoring and prompt action against cross-border criminal activities.
