Explosive Leak: Viral Video of Shiv Sena Leader Sitting with ‘Cash-Laden Bag’ Jolts Maharashtra Politics
Nagpur (The Uttam Hindu): Trouble continues to mount for Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Sanjay Shirsat. Already under the scanner of the Income Tax Department over a sudden spike in his assets, Shirsat is now facing heat from a viral video circulating on social media, sparking political chaos across the state.
In the viral video, the minister is seen casually sitting on a bed wearing shorts and a vest, smoking a cigarette, while talking on the phone. What’s caused the biggest uproar, however, is the open trolley bag beside him—filled with bundles of currency notes, clearly visible in the footage. His pet dog is also seen in the video, further authenticating its domestic setting.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut shared the video on social media and took a direct jab at Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, writing: “I feel bad for Devendra Fadnavis… How many times will he have to watch his reputation be dragged through the mud? Fadnavis – another name for helplessness.” In response to the controversy, Minister Shirsat denied all allegations, claiming the bag in the video did not contain cash but clothes.
“There were no bundles of money in that bag, only clothes. The narrative is being twisted,” Shirsat said in a statement. This incident comes on the heels of a prior I-T notice issued to Shirsat over the unexplained increase in his property between 2019 and 2024. He acknowledged receiving the notice and said, “We were asked to respond by July 9, but I’ve requested an extension. We’re ready to face any inquiry.”
