Shivpuri(The Uttam Hindu): Continuous heavy rains across several districts of Madhya Pradesh have caused rivers and drains to overflow, pushing crocodiles out of their natural habitats and onto city roads. Shivpuri, one of the affected districts, is witnessing frequent crocodile sightings in residential areas during this monsoon.

A recent incident in Karaundi Colony left residents both terrified and curious when a crocodile was spotted on the street late at night. Locals, instead of panicking, tied the reptile’s mouth with a rope and even lifted it in their arms. Some people clicked selfies, took videos, and posed for pictures with the animal. The sight attracted a crowd, and the unusual scene quickly spread on social media. Later, the residents informed the forest department. By the time the rescue team arrived, the crocodile had already been restrained and was safely handed over to the officials.

According to locals, such sightings have become common during monsoon season. In the past few days, crocodiles have also been seen in Shivnagar, Chhatri Colony Road, and Jadhav Sagar areas. Experts say the main reason is the proximity of Shivpuri’s urban colonies to Madhav National Park, where the Sankhya Sagar Lake hosts a large crocodile population. During heavy rains, overflowing drains connected to the lake allow these reptiles to enter the city. Forest officials have urged residents to remain cautious and immediately inform authorities if they spot any wild animal. They also advised against taking unnecessary risks or treating these incidents as entertainment.
