New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : A major accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during Chhath Puja. A boat capsized while people were taking selfies in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, several people on board drowned in the river.
As soon as this accident occurred at the ghat, panic spread. Some villagers present at the ghat jumped into the river. Four people were rescued by the villagers. The search for the remaining people is ongoing. Police have also reached the spot with divers. The incident occurred in Kodochak village, under the Baburi police station area. According to information, thousands of people had gathered at the Chandraprabha River for Chhath Puja. A makeshift boat was plying the river. Some people boarded the boat and started taking selfies during the puja. Meanwhile, the boat lost its balance, causing all the passengers to drown. As soon as the boat fell into the river, there was a scream. Villagers present at the ghat jumped into the water. Somehow, they managed to pull four people out safely. While it is suspected that many more people may have fallen into the water. Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene with divers.

On Monday, in Navtoliya village of Navgachhiya subdivision, after making Chhath Ghat, the children went to take bath in the river. During this, one of their companions got stuck in the deep water. While trying to save him, the other three children also drowned in the depth of the river.
The deaths of four children from the same village plunged the entire area into mourning. The joy of Chhath Puja turned to grief. An atmosphere of sobbing and grief spread throughout Navtoliya and the surrounding hamlets. People say that the children were very excited and were helping the elders build the ghats, but in no time, their joy turned to mourning. This incident, which occurred amid preparations for the sacred festival of Chhath, has shaken people's hearts. Following the incident, the administration has issued instructions to increase security along the banks of the Ganga and erect barricades on the ghats. Meanwhile, the police are urging people to exercise caution in the river during Chhath Puja, especially not to let children go alone.
