Big Shake-Up in Ukraine! Zelensky Replaces PM Denys Shmyhal with Yulia Svyrydenko
Kyiv (The Uttam Hindu): In a major wartime political shake-up, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed Yulia Svyrydenko as the country’s new Prime Minister, replacing Denys Shmyhal, who resigned after holding the post for more than four years.
The reshuffle comes as the Russia-Ukraine war enters its fourth year, putting immense pressure on Kyiv’s leadership. The proposal to appoint Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister has been submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament for approval.
Shmyhal, Ukraine’s longest-serving Prime Minister, was first appointed on March 4, 2020. After his resignation, Zelensky reassigned him to the Defence Ministry, a crucial role during wartime with one of the largest government budgets.
Yulia Svyrydenko, currently known for her role in US-Ukraine mineral agreements and her active participation in high-level meetings with Western allies, is expected to bring fresh momentum to the government. Zelensky recently shared a photo with Yulia and Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, highlighting plans to boost domestic weapons production and enhance drone supplies in the next six months.
This cabinet reshuffle is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Ukraine’s wartime governance, streamline defence priorities, and reinforce ties with Western partners.
