LoC on High Alert: One Militant Killed, Soldier Martyred in Fierce LoC Gunfight
Uri, North Kashmir(The Uttam Hindu): Indian Army troops on Wednesday morning foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. In the intense exchange of fire, one terrorist was gunned down while a brave soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. Following the encounter, security forces launched a massive search operation in the entire area to ensure no other infiltrators remain.
This marks the third encounter in just 13 days in Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, on August 10, security forces in Kishtwar’s Dul area had launched a cordon-and-search operation after receiving inputs about terrorists hiding in the region. Gunfire was exchanged, and the operation is still ongoing.
Since August 1, a major anti-terror operation has been underway in the Akhal forests of Kulgam, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists so far. The operation has claimed the lives of two soldiers and left nine others injured.
On August 2, in Pulwama, security forces eliminated C-category terrorist Haris Nazir Dar — one of 14 local terrorists named in an intelligence list released on April 26 following the Pahalgam attack. Security agencies say Pakistan-backed groups are making desperate attempts to push infiltrators across the LoC ahead of India’s Independence Day, but heightened border vigilance has thwarted multiple plots.
