US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Extends Independence Day Greetings, Stresses Stronger India-US Partnership

New York(The Uttam Hindu): On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended warm greetings, emphasizing Washington’s commitment to working with New Delhi to tackle modern global challenges and ensure a brighter future for both nations.

Highlighting the historic ties, Rubio said, “The bond between the world’s largest democracy, India, and the world’s oldest democracy, the United States, is vital and far-reaching. By working together, we will face today’s challenges and secure a brighter future for our people.”

Rubio’s remarks come at a time of trade tensions and policy disagreements, particularly over tariffs imposed by the US and President Donald Trump’s controversial claim about his role in resolving the “Operation Sindoor” conflict.

He also underlined cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries face challenges linked to China. “Our shared goal is to make the region more peaceful, prosperous, and secure,” he said.

Rubio further pointed to collaboration in technology, industry, and innovation, noting that the partnership spans into space exploration and emerging technologies. However, concerns remain due to Trump’s 25% import tariffs on Indian goods and his warnings of additional duties over India’s purchase of Russian oil.

Another point of contention is Trump’s repeated assertion that he mediated between India and Pakistan during their conflict earlier this year. India has strongly denied the claim, maintaining that the matter was resolved directly through military communication between the two neighbors.
