57-Year-Old Woman Burns Landlord Alive Over Property Dispute After 5-Year Affair
Ganjam (The Uttam Hindu): A sensational case has come to light in Ganjam district of Odisha. Here a 57-year-old woman has been arrested for pouring kerosene on her 72-year-old landlord and setting him on fire to grab his property. According to the police, the accused woman, Sudeshna Jena, killed retired revenue officer Harihar Sahu.
Sarwan Vivek M, head of the team investigating the case, said that initial investigations revealed that widow Sudeshna Jena and Harihar Sahu were in a relationship for the last five years. On Thursday morning, when Harihar Sahu was sleeping in his room, Sudeshna Jena came to his room and poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Harihar Sahu, who was badly burnt, was immediately rushed to a hospital in Berhampur, where doctors referred him to Cuttack, but he could not be saved.
The police officer said that the accused woman not only murdered her landlord in a planned manner but also tried to destroy the evidence. She threw the victim's phone in the courtyard of the house and also put the bottle containing kerosene on fire.
After setting the fire, Sudeshna Jena started shouting, pretending to save Harihar Sahu to prove herself innocent, following which the neighbours also came to the spot and rushed the injured Sahu to the hospital.
The police officer also said that the accused woman informed the deceased's daughter about the incident, following which the daughter rushed to a hospital in Cuttack. The murder was reportedly revealed when Harihar Sahu told his daughter that someone had poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
Based on this information, the deceased's daughter Madhusmita filed a report at the Baidyanathpur police station. She accused the woman of attacking her father to grab the property. Based on Madhusmita's report, the police have arrested the accused woman.
