New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A routine Delhi Metro ride turned into a surprise discovery when a passenger stumbled upon a large box of Nirodh condoms behind a station gate. The photo, shared on social media, sparked a wave of humorous reactions, with users joking about the find and recalling the Delhi Metro's past initiatives to distribute condoms as part of public health campaigns.

In 2014, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation partnered with HLL Lifecare to install vending machines at various metro stations, distributing Nirodh condoms, oral contraceptives, and sanitary napkins. This initiative aimed to promote family planning and HIV prevention, particularly targeting high-risk groups.

Nirodh condoms, launched in the 1960s, were India's first government-manufactured condom brand, available free of cost at government health centers. Despite initial success, the brand faced challenges due to unimaginative marketing and packaging, leading to a decline in popularity.

The recent discovery has reignited discussions about the importance of accessible contraception and family planning resources, especially in public spaces.
