Fear grips village: Unknown person attacking children, women take night watch
Bahraich (The Uttam Hindu): Bahraich is experiencing a wolf menace that has been ongoing for months. The situation has deteriorated so much that women are taking the lead in protecting their children. Armed with axes, sticks, and batons, these women stand vigil throughout the night to protect their children and families from these ferocious wolves.
Four innocent children have lost their lives and more than 18 others have been injured in the months-long attacks by dangerous animals. Nearly a dozen villages in the Majhara Taukli area, including Babhanan Purva, Bhirgu Purva, Baba Patav, Devnath Purva, and Gandhiganj, are under the threat of wolves.
Man-eating wolves emerging from isolated areas are particularly targeting innocent children. Women in rural areas plagued by ferocious animal attacks have taken on the responsibility of protecting them.
The women guarding the area and local residents are angry that the forest department and administration are not taking any effective action. Villagers say they won't be able to sleep peacefully until these man-eating wolves are captured and caged.
Local woman Meena Devi says, "Because of wolves and leopards, we have to guard our homes with axes. These dangerous animals enter the house and attack children." She said her children were attacked three days ago. They were saved with sticks, otherwise the animals would have taken them away. Therefore, women stay awake at night and keep watch.
Chandrakanthi said, "We women are guarding the area with sticks and protecting our children." She added that one night a wolf attacked them. It was only thanks to the sticks and rods that they were able to save their lives. Afterward, the entire family, including the children, was locked in a room.
Similarly, other women of the village stay awake all night and protect the children.
Bahraich District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi confirmed the deaths of four children. The District Magistrate said, "The death toll from the incidents so far is four. Some of the injured suffered minor injuries. Two more people were attacked and are hospitalized. They are currently out of danger."
