From street stalls to jackpot glory: Jaipur vendor wins Rs 11 crore, gifts Rs 1 crore to friend's daughters
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): After a four-day wait, the winner of the Punjab government's Diwali Bumper Lottery's ₹11 crore jackpot has finally been revealed. This lucky winner is Amit (Amit Sehra), a vegetable vendor from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
On Tuesday, Amit, along with his wife and two children, arrived at the Punjab State Lotteries office in Chandigarh to claim his ₹11 crore prize. The government will soon hand over the cheque to him.
Amit, who became a millionaire overnight, described his life's struggles, saying, "I used to sell potatoes and tomatoes on the streets to support my family. I still can't believe I hit the jackpot."
An emotional Amit said, "I used to face abuse from the police while setting up my stall. I thank Lord Hanuman for making me capable. I bought this ticket for the first time in my life." He added, "I didn't even have money for the fare to come here (to Chandigarh). I reached here by borrowing money from people. Now my luck has completely changed."
Amit Sehra also revealed that a friend had given him the money to buy this lottery ticket. In a display of generosity, Amit announced that he would give 50 lakh rupees (a total of 1 crore rupees) from the prize money to his friend's two daughters and would also personally perform their wedding.
