On Saturday afternoon, local time, a helicopter lost control and crashed near Huntington Street, injuring five people. A video of this horrific accident has surfaced, which is enough to send shivers down anyone's spine.
Video of the accident clearly shows that the helicopter was flying very low. Its wings collided with the leaves of tall palm trees, causing a technical malfunction. The pilot lost control, and the helicopter suddenly rose and then crashed to the ground.
According to officials, two people on board the helicopter at the time of the accident were rescued from the wreckage and taken to hospital. Three other people on the ground were injured by the helicopter.
According to reports, the helicopter belonged to aviation veteran Eric Nixon. It was a 1980 Bell 222 model (tail number N222EX) with a seating capacity of ten. Officials said the helicopter had a total flight time of less than 1,900 hours and was equipped with a modern navigation system.
Investigators arrived at the scene immediately after the accident, and the area was cordoned off. Pacific Coast Highway has also been closed as a precaution. Witnesses said they thought the accident was part of a film shoot. The helicopter was participating in a "Cars and Copters" event held on the beach.
