Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): It is said that education never goes waste and a living example of this is 83-year-old Hardayal Singh of Ludhiana, Punjab. The name plate outside the house of Hardayal Singh, who is retired from the Army, tells the story of his achievements.

Hardayal Singh has 16 post graduate degrees. Not only this, if his MPhil and diploma certificates are also added then he has almost 40 degrees. This achievement is beyond the imagination of any ordinary person.

Hardayal Singh has been studying continuously for the last 63 years

. During his time in the army, whenever he was posted in different cities, he used to join new courses there due to his curiosity and love for reading. At some places he did correspondence courses, and at other places he also studied full-time.

Journey out of poverty

Born on June 10, 1942, Hardayal Singh is a civil engineer by profession. He passed matriculation from Punjab University in 1957. He retired from the Army in 2002. Hardayal says that he comes from a poor family and initially his only aim of studying was to get a job and take care of the family. After getting a job, he completed the education of his siblings and helped his parents.

Passion for new subjects

Hardayal says that the desire to gain knowledge of new subjects kept motivating him to study continuously. He obtained degrees in many subjects which very few people go for. He appeared for many exams alone and achieved success.

Family became a support

His wife and family always supported him in his educational journey. The atmosphere of his house was so educational that his three sons and one daughter also moved forward taking inspiration from their father and today they are successful in their lives.

Even today, Hardayal Singh continues his studies.

Even at the age of 83, he spends most of his time with books. His family wants this amazing achievement of his to be recorded in the Guinness World Records.
