₹1.5 crore cash, 85 ATMs, 75 passbooks recovered in raid on tea seller’s hideout; 3 detained
Gopalganj (The Uttam Hindu): Gopalganj police carried out one of the largest operations against cyber fraud to date, seizing a large sum of cash and documents related to cyber fraud. The operation took place late on October 17th in Kavilaspur village, under the jurisdiction of the Thawe police station. Cyber DSP Avantika Dilip Kumar led the entire operation.
Police raided a house and seized a total of Rs 1 crore 05 lakh 49,850 in cash.
During the seizure, police seized 85 ATM cards, 75 bank passbooks, 28 checkbooks, Aadhaar cards, two laptops, three mobile phones and a car. DSP Avantika Dilip Kumar said the man whose home was raided previously ran a tea shop. Police detained three suspects at the scene and are being interrogated.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that this gang was committing fraud through fake calls, online fraud and obtaining account details. Through this fraud, the gang would request money into various bank accounts and then withdraw it as cash to conduct transactions.
Police have begun gathering transaction information from the seized ATM cards and passbooks. The cyber cell and local police stations are working together to investigate the gang's entire network.
The DSP said that preliminary investigations have yielded several important clues. Police suspect that several other individuals are involved in this network and the search is ongoing. Police say that several more arrests are possible in this case and accounts linked to them in various parts of the country are also being investigated.
