Rats Bite Two Newborns at MY Hospital, Panic Among Parents
Indore (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident of negligence and mismanagement has come to light from the city's oldest and most prestigious government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH). In the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on two different days, rats nibbled at the hands of two newborn babies. As soon as this news came to light, there was a stir in the health department and the hospital administration lost its sleep.
According to the information, two newborn babies born a few days ago were admitted to the NICU due to health problems. On Sunday night, seeing a wound on the hand of one of these children, the doctors first suspected an infection. But when a similar incident happened with another newborn on Monday and the doctors saw a rat in the ward, the matter came to light. The hospital staff has also admitted that the problem of rats in the wards, especially in the NICU, has been there for a long time.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, hospital superintendent Dr. Ashok Yadav has confirmed the incidents. He said that the condition of both the children is stable and they are being treated. He said, "This is a very sensitive matter. A committee has been formed to investigate who is responsible for this negligence."
The hospital administration has assured to take strict measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. Dr. Yadav said that strong iron nets are being installed on the windows of the hospital. Also, the relatives of the patients have been appealed not to bring food items from outside inside the ward, as this attracts rats. The staff has also been instructed to keep a strict vigil 24 hours a day.
