New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After the United States withdrew from several international organisations, global politics has seen renewed activity. Following this move, Israel has also announced an immediate decision to cut all ties with several United Nations agencies and international institutions. The decision was taken by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, who accused these organisations of continuous bias, politicisation, and adopting an anti-Israel stance. Israel’s move has sparked fresh debate at the international level.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the decision on Tuesday through a post on social media platform X. It stated that after reviewing the organisations affected by the US decision and based on Israel’s own experience, the government decided to sever ties.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has instructed officials to immediately end all contact with the concerned agencies. At the same time, cooperation with other international organisations will also be reviewed, and consultations will be held with relevant government ministries if required.

Israel said these organisations repeatedly showed prejudice against the country, harming its international image. Based on the list of organisations affected by the US decision, Israel has already ended ties with four United Nations bodies.

These include the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. Israel alleged that this office blacklisted the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in 2024. Another organisation is UN Women, which works for women’s equality and empowerment. Israel accused UN Women of ignoring cases of sexual violence against Israeli women during the October 7, 2023 attacks, calling the silence deeply painful.

The third organisation is the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which Israel accused of publishing dozens of anti-Israel reports. Israel had already been distancing itself from UNCTAD and has now formally ended relations.

Foreign Minister Sa’ar has indicated that cooperation with other international bodies will also be closely examined, and more strict decisions may follow. Israel stated that there is no justification for maintaining cooperation with organisations that claim neutrality but act with bias. The move is being seen as part of Israel’s independent foreign policy approach and its focus on protecting national interests, reportedly influenced by recent US decisions.
