New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As the U.S. maintains a harsh tariff stance on India, its relations with Pakistan appear to be growing warmer. In a notable development, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir is scheduled to visit the United States again — marking his second trip in just two months.

This time, General Munir is heading to Tampa, Florida, to attend the farewell ceremony of CENTCOM Commander General Michael E. Kurilla at the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters. The growing frequency of high-level interactions between Pakistan’s military and the U.S. has raised eyebrows in the geopolitical landscape.

It is important to note that General Kurilla had visited Pakistan in late July and has expressed a deep working relationship with the country during his tenure. He has praised Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism, especially in its operations against ISIS-K (Islamic State–Khorasan Province). Kurilla, however, has also emphasized the importance of the U.S. maintaining balanced relations with both India and Pakistan.

During his June 2025 visit, General Munir also had a two-hour luncheon meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighting the strengthening military-to-military communication between Pakistan and the United States.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump’s administration has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India’s continued import of discounted oil from Russia post the Ukraine war. The total tariff burden on Indian exports to the U.S. has now reached 50% under Trump’s policies.

This contrasting approach — tariff war with India, military warmth with Pakistan — is drawing international attention as the U.S. recalibrates its South Asia strategy amid changing global dynamics.
