WASHINGTON (Uttam Hindu News): US President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States has extradited two suspected drug traffickers to their native countries of Ecuador and Colombia. The action came after the US military targeted a drug-smuggling submarine in the Caribbean Sea, killing two people.

' At least 25,000 Americans would have died,' Trump said on the submarine attack in the Caribbean: Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "It is a matter of pride for me to have destroyed a large drug-carrying submarine heading towards America. This ship was passing through a notorious narco-trafficking route and was loaded with many drugs including fentanyl." He further said that two smugglers were killed while two others were arrested and are being sent back to their countries for legal action. He said, if this submarine had reached America, at least 25 thousand Americans would have died due to the drugs present in it.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro also confirmed that his country's citizen had been safely repatriated. "We are glad he is alive and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," he wrote on the social media platform X. The action announced by Trump on Friday is another step in a US military campaign aimed at curbing drug trafficking from Latin America into the US.

Since September, the US military has targeted at least six boats in the Caribbean, mostly speedboats. While Washington claims these operations have dealt significant damage to drug trafficking networks, it has not yet been clear how many of the 27 people killed were actually involved in trafficking.
