Attack on Indian Embassy and insult to the Tricolour… India warns Croatia, asks for strict action against culprits
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has taken a strong stand over the incident of vandalism at the Indian Embassy in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the incident, calling it a clear violation of international laws. Referring to the Vienna Convention, India said it is the responsibility of the host country to ensure the safety and dignity of foreign diplomatic missions.
According to the MEA, anti-India elements removed the Indian national flag, the Tricolour, from outside the embassy premises and attempted to replace it with another flag. The ministry described this act as illegal, shameful, and deeply condemnable. India has taken up the matter seriously with Croatian authorities and demanded the identification of those responsible and strict action against them.
Tricolour removed by anti-India elements
Reports indicate that a group of anti-India individuals, linked to Khalistani elements, removed the Indian flag from outside the embassy and put up their own flag. The MEA termed the act both unlawful and disgraceful, and urged Croatian officials to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
Violation of Vienna Convention
The Indian government made it clear that under the Vienna Convention, the protection of diplomatic premises is the responsibility of the host nation. The MEA stated that any compromise with the security and dignity of embassies is unacceptable. India has lodged a strong protest with Croatia and said such incidents expose extremist thinking and dangerous intentions.
India has expressed hope that the Croatian government will further strengthen security arrangements at the Indian Embassy to prevent any repetition of such acts. New Delhi also emphasized that the international community must remain vigilant against elements that threaten the safety of diplomatic institutions.
